STX Deploys Juniper Networks End-To-End Networking Solution to Support Corporate Collaboration

Juniper Networks EX Series Ethernet Switches, SRX Series Services Gateways and Junos® Key Elements of STX Institute of Technology Network

Korea, August 31, 2010 — Juniper Networks® (NYSE: JNPR) today announced that STX Corporation, one of Korea's leading conglomerates, has deployed a complete high-performance networking solution running on the Junos® operating system at a new state-of-the-art office block near key production facilities in Kyungnam region. Juniper Networks EX Series Ethernet Switches and SRX Series Services Gateways installed in the STX Institute of Technology enable STX to increase organizational agility and scale operations while maintaining low operational overheads.

STX Institute of Technology has been built to foster collaboration between personnel from across the group — in high value-creation roles such as research, design and management — to maximize synergy and growth in related business areas.

"Facilitating creative collaboration is the key objectives of the IT network and to maximize leverage we integrated network design into the building design process," said Woosub Im, assistant manager of Forcetech, the STX Group's IT services subsidiary. "This integrated philosophy was behind the decision to source all networking infrastructure from a single vendor.

"In our evaluation Juniper Networks' enterprise switching and security devices provided outstanding price/performance with excellent reliability and scalability. With Junos running across all devices management and interoperability are seamless, contributing to lower operational costs."

STX has deployed Juniper Networks EX8200 Ethernet Switches in the STX Institute of Technology backbone with EX4200 switches in Virtual Chassis configuration acting as resilient distribution layer supporting EX3200 switches that provide powered Ethernet ports to end-user devices. According to Im power requirements for Juniper's EX Series are 40–60 percent less than comparable devices, with 30 percent less cooling needed.

While fostering inter-company collaboration is high on the STX Institute of Technology IT agenda, so is security since certain information will always confidential to individual STX companies. The strength of the award-winning Juniper Networks SRX650 Services Gateway was seen as another big plus in the decision to deploy an all-Juniper solution, according to Im.

"The SRX Series has a Dynamic Services Architecture that scales integrated security and network capabilities in tandem, ensuring performance is never sacrificed for security nor security sacrificed for performance," said Tim Kang, vice president, Korea, Juniper Networks. "The SRX650 is a high-end enterprise device with the headroom for STX to scale performance and, working in unison with the EX Series switches, enables Juniper Networks Unified Access Control throughout the STX Institute of Technology network."

Virtual LANs are used extensively across the STX Institute of Technology network, with Forcetec's IT administrators able to leverage the integrated network and security management in Junos to streamline configuration and updates. STX Institute of Technology also has VLAN links to the STX R&D Center in Changwon, linking staff at the two sites on the same network to improve efficiency and productivity.
