Content Direct is a next-generation content delivery solution that enables network providers to more efficiently deliver content to consumers, and be ready for monetisation of content delivery.
Content Direct Overview
The Problem
Network service providers are experiencing huge increases in online video traffic, primarily due to Over-The-Top traffic. This is being fueled by the number of consumer electronic devices combining traditional TV viewing with Internet content consumption.
In addition, online video is evolving from short-form user-generated content, such as YouTube, to longer forms of content such as movies. This is driving more viewing minutes per consumer. The result is increased network investment to increase capacity or risk potential network congestion and lower quality for consumers.
The Solution
Content Direct is a solution from Juniper Networks that optimises a network service provider’s network for content delivery. It offloads online video and other content from the backbone network or transit points to reduce overall network traffic, resulting in lower network costs.
In addition, Content Direct enables network service providers to provide a higher level of customer satisfaction through improved quality of experience, positively impacting churn and setting the stage for monetising content delivery.
Content Direct solution components include:
Media Flow Controller — provides the highly scalable and efficient transparent caching functionality which enables popular content to be stored and delivered within the service provider's network.
MX-series Universal Edge Routers — provides the intelligent content forwarding and edge routing functionality to route the content requests to the Media Flow Controller with ultimate delivery to end users.
Server Load Balancing (SLB) — when multiple Media Flow Controllers are implemented at the edge of the network to provide load balancing for the Media Flow Controllers, SLB is a requirement. The MX-series can perform this through its router-integrated SLB functionality or it can be provided by a third party SLB partner.
