The cloud-ready data centre requires network resources to be allocated, expanded, and re-allocated efficiently at scale. Juniper's uniquely architected platforms deliver the agility and scaling required by virtualising network configurations, segmenting services into logical domains, and using industry-leading hardware designs to scale without complexity. As service providers deliver end-to-end services, the network must react appropriately to changes in the data centre. With a large pool of resources to draw on, service providers can efficiently partition those resources to meet service requirements and remain elastic while ensuring performance, security, and control.

Juniper Networks' approach to sharing the network revolves around aligning capacities, bandwidth, priorities, and availability goals with application requirements using technologies based on standards and simplified policies.

Virtual Chassis technology, integrated into the EX4200 line of switches, allows multiple devices to be interconnected and behave as a single device. In each of our routing and switching lines, customers have unmatched scale and agility in processing ACLs, or “policy filters” that forward traffic according to rules for the designated types at line rate and at all packet sizes.

Juniper's security services and policies nest VLANs within logical zones for security segmentation. With our carrier-grade, scalable MPLS and VPLS technologies, VPNs can be used to extend zones, and VLANs can be stretched across data centres or pods for more flexible shared links to the cloud.

Solution Components

Switching

• QFX Series Switches: The QFX Series is part of the foundation technology of the QFabric architecture—a revolutionary approach that delivers quantum leap improvements in data centre performance, operating costs and business agility for enterprises, high-performance computing and large-scale cloud providers. QFabric implements a single-tier network in the data centre, enabling exponential improvements in speed, scale and efficiency by removing legacy barriers and improving business agility.
  
  

  The QFX Series includes two product lines:

  • QFX3000 Switch — Composed of three separate components—the QF/Node, QF/Interconnect and QF/Director—the QFX3000 creates a high-performance, ultra low latency fabric that unleashes the full power of the data centre. The QF/Node acts as the entry and exit into the fabric; the QF/Interconnect is the high-speed transport device for interconnecting QF/Nodes; and the QF/Director provides control and management services to deliver a common window for managing all devices as a single device.
  • QFX3500 Switch — The QFX3500 is a standalone 48-port 10GbE top-of-rack switch with four 40GbE uplink ports and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) and FC gateway functionality. With a simple software and configuration change, the QFX3500 can also become part of a QFX3000 Switch, providing the QF/Node functionality in the QFabric architecture.
• EX Series Ethernet Switches: The EX Series Ethernet Switches deliver unmatched scale and performance for L2 and L3 data centre networks. The high-density, high-performance EX8200 modular switches support data centre and cloud computing environments While the EX4200 and EX4500 switches with Virtual Chassis fabric technology work together in top-of-rack deployments to support a mix of 1GbE and 10GbE ports. Virtual Chassis technology allows multiple interconnected switches to operate as a single device, reducing management overhead.

Routing

• vGW Series: Secure the virtual data centre and cloud computing environments in real-time through this high-performance, hypervisor-based stateful firewall that provides virtual network visibility, monitoring, and reporting. vGW enforces a granular virtualized security policy consistent and integrated with physical server security, and automatically invoke policy enforcement as VMs change and move, all with zero VM host capacity drain.

Junos Platform

• Junos Pulse: A dynamic, standards-based multiservice network client that drastically simplifies user experiences by delivering integrated connectivity, access, application acceleration, and security.
• Junos Space: A suite of applications for network infrastructure automation including:
