Public Services Network

"We approached Juniper both as a trusted partner and as a primary contributor to the industry standards being defined for use in the PSN environment. This led to successful proof-of concept testing and subsequent recommendations on provisioning best practice. Juniper continues to work closely within the Programme in order to support the technical work stream effort."John Stubley, PSN Programme Director at the Cabinet Office.

The Public Services Network (PSN) is a platform for public sector innovation. It will transform the way many public sector services are delivered and revolutionise the way many citizens interact with government organisations. The PSN fundamentally changes the economics of government ICT and lends itself to further efficiency gains through shared services and collaboration. We know that moving from your existing network to one that is PSN-compliant will require careful planning and will stretch beyond the traditional boundaries of communications as risk appetite is factored in. With cyber security now a tier one threat, security considerations become more important than ever. Juniper’s long-standing relationship with the Cabinet Office and CESG ensures our solutions are developed from a fundamental understanding of the Government’s “network of networks” approach.

Juniper Networks, First to Gain PEPAS Accreditation
Juniper Networks was the first vendor to engage with CESG in the new PEPAS process leading to accreditation of our SRX family of CPE access devices. This allows you to work at IL3 across the PSN using a single off-the-shelf product. Its flexibility enables organisations to work at IL2, IL3, or a combination of the two through the same device. Different departments can share in the knowledge that their data is protected.

Collaboration
Juniper worked, in collaboration with The Cabinet Office, on the proof of concept testing for the PSN and we are a member of the PSN Security and Technical work streams helping government define the standards for PSN. This gives us an insight into the nature of the PSN that transcends the technical solution. Juniper’s early engagement in the PEPAS process demonstrated our belief in doing the right thing as a trusted vendor the UK Government.
