What is the Junos XML API?

The Junos XML API defines an XML equivalent for all statements in the Junos configuration hierarchy and many of the commands that you can issue in Junos OS CLI operational mode. The Junos XML Management Protocol and NETCONF XML Management Protocol both use the tags in the Junos XML API to represent the operational and configuration data that they request and change.

Junos XML API References

The Junos XML API Configuration Reference includes reference pages for the tags that correspond to Junos configuration statements.
The Junos XML API Operational Reference includes reference pages for the tags that correspond to CLI operational mode commands and output, and tables that map CLI commands to Junos XML tags and Perl methods.

Operational Response DTDs

This package contains the XML document type definitions (DTDs) for the tags that correspond to the output from CLI operational mode commands. Client applications can use the DTDs to validate data returned by the Junos XML protocol server.

XML Schema for Configuration Data

This package contains an XML Schema-language representation of the Junos configuration hierarchy. Client applications can use the schema to validate the configuration on a switch, router, or security device, or to learn which features can be configured in the version of the Junos OS running on the device.

XML Schema for Operational Data

This package (available for Junos Release 8.3 and later) contains an XML Schema-language representation of many Junos operational mode commands and their output. Client applications can use the schema to learn which operations they can perform, the tag elements used to request an operation, and the tag elements in the output from an operation.
