Content Direct is a next-generation content delivery solution that enables network providers to more efficiently deliver content to consumers, and be ready for monetization of content delivery.
Content Direct Overview Demo
Network service providers are experiencing huge increases in online video traffic, primarily due to Over-The-Top video and other multimedia traffic. This is being fueled by the number of consumer electronic devices combining traditional TV viewing with Internet content consumption, and the sharp increase in the number of smartphones attached to mobile networks.
In addition, online video content is evolving from short-form user-generated content, such as YouTube, to longer forms of content such as full-length movies. This is driving more viewing minutes per consumer. The result is increased network investment to increase capacity or risk potential network congestion and lower quality for consumers.
Content Direct is the content delivery network solution from Juniper Networks that optimizes a network service provider’s network for multimedia content delivery. This content delivery network solution caches video and other content at the network edge and serves it from there. By offloading multimedia content delivery from the backbone network and transit points, the Content Direct content delivery network solution reduces overall network traffic, and lowers network costs.
In addition, the Content Direct content delivery network solution enables service providers to deliver a higher level of customer satisfaction through improved quality of experience, positively impacting churn and setting the stage for monetizing content delivery.
Content Direct solution components include:
Media Flow Controller — this component of Juniper’s content delivery network solution provides the highly scalable and efficient transparent caching functionality which enables popular content to be stored and delivered within the service provider's network.
MX Series Universal Edge Routers — provides the intelligent content forwarding and edge routing functionality for the content delivery network to route the content requests to the Media Flow Controller with ultimate delivery to end users.
Server Load Balancing (SLB) — when multiple Media Flow Controllers are implemented at the edge of the network to provide load balancing for the Media Flow Controllers in the content delivery network, SLB is a requirement. The MX Series can perform this through its router-integrated SLB functionality or it can be provided by a third party SLB partner.
